VIDEO: Lewis Holtby confronts Hamburg supporters to defend himself
Hamburger SV sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga table following their 2-0 defeat to Wolfsburg on Saturday, a result that triggered fury from the supporters who believe that Hamburg is too large a club to be involved in a relegation battle.
For one player, however, the supporters' anger proved to be too much.
After the final whistle of Saturday's loss, midfielder Lewis Holtby - who was sidelined between January and March with a broken collarbone - confronted Hamburg supporters over the abuse that the club's players have been subjected to recently, yelling: "Come watch us at practice ... look at what I'm doing! I'm trying to work my ass off, but I'm also just a human, you know?"
Holtby, who is at Hamburg on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, has only registered one assist in 18 Bundesliga appearances.
