RB Leipzig fire sporting director Eberl over 'lack of commitment'
RB Leipzig on Friday sacked sporting director Max Eberl, blaming his "lack of commitment" to the club for the decision.
The German Cup holders issued a statement explaining the call was made "independently of the squad changes and the sporting results".
Leipzig announced former player Rouven Schroeder would be promoted to the position from within the team's sporting department as Eberl's replacement.
Eberl, who only joined Leipzig in December, has been heavily linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich.
The two sides play each other in Leipzig on Saturday.
Eberl served as sporting director for Borussia Monchengladbach for 14 years, before stepping down due to exhaustion in January 2022.
Leipzig paid a reported €2.5 million to Gladbach to secure Eberl's services.
Eberl oversaw a summer rebuild in Leipzig, after the side lost Dominik Szoboszlai, Konrad Laimer, Josko Gvardiol and top scorer Christopher Nkunku.
Leipzig brought in several new additions, including Xavi Simons, who has three goals and four assists in five league matches, along with Lois Openda, who has scored three times and assisted twice in the same number of games.
Leipzig have won seven from eight in all competitions this year.
