Dortmund to appoint Gladbach boss Rose next season

Marco Rose, one of the most promising managers in the Bundesliga, will leave Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of the season to take the job at Borussia Dortmund.

The 44-year-old triggered a clause in his contract allowing him to leave, Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said on Monday.

"Until then, we will work hard to achieve our goals in the league, club, and Europe together," Eberl added.

Rose will succeed Lucien Favre, who was fired after Dortmund's humiliating 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart in December. Since then, with former assistant Edin Terzic in interim charge, BVB have dropped to sixth place in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund have yet to confirm the hiring.

After a successful two-year stint at Red Bull Salzburg, Rose joined Monchengladbach in 2019 and led them to the Champions League for the first time in four seasons. He's considered a disciple of Jurgen Klopp, who won back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Dortmund in 2011 and 2012 using modern tactics such as gegenpressing.

Several matters await Rose before he can take his next gig. Monchengladbach face Manchester City in the round of 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday and again on March 16. They meet Dortmund in the German Cup on March 2 and continue to battle for a European place in the Bundesliga table.

His contract was set to run until June 2022.
