Robert Lewandowski headed in his 17th goal in 13 Bundesliga matches against former club Borussia Dortmund, Leroy Sane scored off the bench, and Bayern Munich came away with a narrow 3-2 win in Der Klassiker on Saturday to reclaim first place.

David Alaba canceled out Marco Reus' opening goal deep into first-half stoppage time when he fired a shot off a defender from a set-piece situation.

Lewandowski, who scored twice from offside positions, handed Bayern the lead just after the interval, turning in Lucas Hernandez's cross with a powerful header that dropped into the far corner.

Sane then capped one of Bayern's many counterattacks with his fourth goal since joining the club from Manchester City.

Erling Haaland made things interesting with seven minutes remaining, running onto Raphael Guerreiro's looping pass before beating goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

But Dortmund's wastefulness ultimately let them down, with only five of their 15 shots hitting the target. BVB had a chance to top the Bundesliga with a victory over Bayern but failed to beat their Bavarian rivals for the first time since November 2018.

Despite the result, Bayern will now be sweating over midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who appeared to injure his knee while attempting to tackle Haaland midway through the first half.
