Bayern demolish Dortmund to grab top spot in Bundesliga
Bayern Munich took control of the Bundesliga title race after a merciless 5-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in Saturday's Der Klassiker vaulted the Bavarians into first place.
Dortmund had no answer for a Bayern side that scored four goals - on a relentless nine shots on target - in the opening 45 minutes.
Former Dortmund players Mats Hummels and Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with a pair of goals just 17 minutes into the contest before Javi Martinez and Serge Gnabry all but ended the match with another two goals minutes before the break.
Lewandowski added his second late in the match, as Niko Kovac's men cruised to a crucial victory to capture a one-point advantage over a Dortmund side that has led the league for the majority of the season.
A clash with Fortuna Dusseldorf awaits Bayern Munich next week, while Dortmund will try to rebound from Saturday's loss when they host Mainz.
