Atletico reach knockout stage with victory over Monaco
Atletico Madrid secured a place in the round of 16 after beating AS Monaco 2-0 in their Group A encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday.
Koke opened the scoring inside two minutes before Antoine Griezmann doubled Atletico's lead in the 24th minute.
Former Atleti forward Radamel Falcao had a chance to cut the Spanish side's lead in half following a handball inside the box, but wasn't able to convert.
Atletico Madrid take on Club Brugge to finish the group phase, while Monaco will look to end their dismal Champions League campaign on a positive note when they host Borussia Dortmund.
In Group D, FC Porto and FC Schalke 04 also reached the knockout stage by virtue of Lokomotiv Moscow's 2-0 victory over Galatasaray. Porto have a two-point edge over Schalke heading into their penultimate match of the group stage.
