Andre Schurrle has returned to west London.

Following unsuccessful stints at Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, the 2014 World Cup winner joined newly promoted Fulham on a two-year loan deal from the German side.

It's another unexpected coup for the Cottagers, who surprised onlookers with the signing of Jean Michael Seri from Nice earlier in the month.

Schurrle joined Chelsea in June 2013 and incidentally scored a hat-trick at Craven Cottage in his first season as a Blue.

A lack of playing time forced the German winger to leave Chelsea for Wolfsburg in February 2015, and another move to Dortmund followed the next year.

"I am so happy to be here. I can't wait to get started," Schurrle told fulhamfctv. "Fulham were the first club that showed interest in me. That was something I appreciated a lot, and one of the reasons I wanted to come here."

Schurrle could find space on the right wing of Slavisa Jokanovic's favored 4-3-3 formation, with Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksandar Mitrovic set to complete the attacking triumvirate. Fulham are reportedly in negotiations to sign Mitrovic on a permanent transfer.

The 27-year-old, who assisted the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, will offer Fulham a direct option on the counter-attack and necessary width.

"I love ball possession, I love attacking, and I love making runs, so I think it could be perfect," Schurrle added. "I have to fight for my place and I have to show my quality so that I can be a member who really helps the team."

Schurrle will still have a year left on his contract with Borussia Dortmund by the end of his two-year spell.
