Jerome Boateng and Leroy Sane will try to help Germany achieve a 100 percent record in World Cup qualifying after receiving long-awaited call-ups Friday.

Head coach Joachim Low selected the pair for upcoming matches against Northern Ireland (Oct. 5) and Azerbaijan (Oct. 8). A draw with the former would be enough for Germany to book a ticket to Russia.

Injuries to Manuel Neuer, Jonas Hector, Mario Gomez, Mesut Ozil, and Sami Khedira mean Low is without five of his trusted players.

"It's unfortunate that a few of our most experienced players weren't available for selection," Low said. "In the cases of Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, I think that it will do them good in the long run to be rested throughout the international break."

Sane and Boateng should offer some relief. The Manchester City winger hasn't appeared for Die Mannschaft since March, while the oft-injured Bayern Munich defender last turned out in October 2016.

Here's the rest of Low's 23-man squad:

Goalkeepers: Kevin Trapp, Bernd Leno, Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Defenders: Shkodran Mustafi, Marvin Plattenhardt, Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule, Antonio Rudiger, Jerome Boateng, Joshua Kimmich

Midfielders: Julian Draxler, Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Emre Can, Amin Younes, Leon Goretzka, Julian Brandt, Sebastian Rudy, Leroy Sane

Forwards: Sandro Wagner, Lars Stindl, Timo Werner
