Pereira last managed at Fenerbahce, where he was sacked after the Turkish club crashed out of the 2016-17 Champions League's third qualifying round, falling 4-3 on aggregate to AS Monaco. The 48-year-old's time in Portugal was much more successful, as he rose through the country's lower leagues to become FC Porto's manager, working as an assistant to Andre-Villas Boas in the process.
Also on Pereira's resume are Al-Ahli and Olympiacos.
