Wolfsburg snags Blaszczykowski from Dortmund

Jakub Blaszczykowski ended his nine-year association with Borussia Dortmund on Monday, signing with rival Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for a reported €5-million fee.

The 30-year-old Poland captain, who spent the past season on loan at Fiorentina, agreed to a deal until 2019.

"With him in the side, we increase our variability and penetrative power distinctly down the right flank," manager Dieter Hecking said in a statement. "Jakub will also bring us further with his immense experience and help us to achieve our goals, such as qualifying for international football again. He is a massive win for us."

Blaszczykowski won every domestic trophy with Dortmund during a widely successful reign at the Westfalenstadion. He was one of the last remnants of Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund, with manager Thomas Tuchel fully applying his own imprint on BVB.

A traditional winger with a knack for scoring goals, Blaszczykowski made more than 250 appearances in the yellow-and-black kit. He will now offer his service to a Wolfsburg side that finished a disappointing eighth place in the Bundesliga last season.

He's the club's eight summer signing, following Yannick Gerhardt, Jeffrey Bruma, Josip Brekalo, Victor Osimhen, Josuha Guilavogui, Daniel Didavi, and Borja Mayoral.

Left winger Andre Schurrle moved to Dortmund on a €30-million deal two weeks ago, meaning Wolfsburg will now look down the right to get service from Blaszczykowski.
