Southampton confirmed Monday that midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined the club from Bayern Munich.

After completing his medical with the Premier League side, Hojbjerg signed a five-year contract that will keep him at St. Mary's Stadium until 2021.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports suggest Southampton paid £12 million to complete the transfer.

The Danish international, who spent last season on loan with FC Schalke 04, revealed that Southampton's style is what attracted him to the Premier League outfit.

"I'm very pleased," he said. "It’s a big opportunity for me. I look forward to giving what I have and what I can to the club. They have put trust in me and I want to show them that they are not wrong.

"When I heard that Southampton came in for me I said to my people that this is what I want to do because I can see myself at Southampton, as it's the way I like to think, the way I like to play, and it fits me really well."

The 20-year-old holds the distinction of being the youngest player to appear in a match for Bayern Munich when he made his debut at the age of 17.

Hojbjerg is the second significant arrival at Southampton following Nathan Redmond's transfer from Norwich City earlier this month.
