Title celebrations on hold as Bayern settles for draw with Monchengladbach
The inevitable will have to wait for another week.
Bayern Munich, who could have established a Bundesliga record by capturing a fourth consecutive league crown on Saturday, was held to a surprising 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. That result, coupled with Borussia Dortmund's simultaneous obliteration of Wolfsburg, leaves Pep Guardiola's men five points ahead of their only title rival with two matches remaining on the campaign.
Bayern supporters ready to celebrate a historic victory were treated to encouraging signs early in the contest, but Thomas Muller's 6th-minute header was cancelled out by Andre Hahn's second-half strike.
Pressing hard as the seconds ticked away, the Bavarian club couldn't find the winner, and was forced to settle for just a solitary point.
Mathematically, Dortmund could still pull off the upset and catch its perennial rival, though in reality, Saturday's two results simply mean the champagne - and beer - will remain on ice for another seven days.
Bayern, still in contention for a treble this season, will get another opportunity to clinch its 26th Bundesliga crown next Saturday against Ingolstadt.
