Garcia-Romero to headline May event in Times Square
A blockbuster Ring Magazine boxing card is set for May 2 in Times Square in New York, announced Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority.
Ryan Garcia will face Rolly Romero in a junior welterweight bout in the main event.
Additionally, former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney will take on Jose Ramirez in a welterweight fight, and Teofimo Lopez will defend the WBO junior welterweight title against interim champ Arnold Barboza Jr.
Garcia will return to the ring for the first time since a no-contest against Haney last spring in Brooklyn. Garcia initially defeated Haney via majority decision in a major upset, but the result was overturned due to a failed drug test. The New York State Athletic Commission suspended Garcia for one year retroactive to April 20, 2024.
Garcia and Haney are expected to meet in a rematch later this year should they win their respective May 2 bouts.
Romero, a former WBA junior welterweight champion, is coming off a win against Manuel Jaimes last September and is 2-2 in his last four appearances.
