Hearn: Bivol 'robbed' of win vs. Beterbiev
Dmitry Bivol's promoter, Eddie Hearn, vehemently disagrees with the judging in Saturday's undisputed light heavyweight title fight against Artur Beterbiev.
Bivol suffered a majority decision loss to Beterbiev in a long-awaited meeting between the two 175-pound greats in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Two judges scored the fight in Beterbiev's favor - 115-113 and 116-112 - and the third had it as a draw.
Hearn sounded off on the scorecards - particularly the 116-112 tally - and said he believes Bivol "was robbed of the undisputed championship."
"I don't want to disrespect Artur Beterbiev and his team, because they're just incredible fighters," Hearn said at the postfight press conference. "But I find it sickening that, after a lifetime of hard work, Dmitry Bivol is not undisputed champion tonight. He won that fight."
Hearn added that the judge who scored the fight 116-112 for Beterbiev, Pawel Kardyni, "should never work in this sport again."
"It's a joke. ... How could you score that fight 8-4 to Artur Beterbiev?" Hearn said, according to Fight Hub TV. "Unbelievable. Terrible decision."
Beterbiev and Bivol both said Saturday that they'd be open to a rematch. Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, said he'll attempt to schedule a second fight between the two Russians.
"I don't think the result is fair, in my opinion. ... I will focus and I will try to do the rematch," Alalshikh told The Stomping Ground. "They deserve it. If they accept, we will do it."
