GGG to fight Canadian Steve Rolls at MSG in June
Gennady Golovkin's highly anticipated return to the ring will come June 8 when he meets undefeated Canadian Steve Rolls at Madison Square Garden, Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reports. The bout, announced Tuesday, will be streamed on DAZN.
Golovkin (38-1-1) last fought on Sept. 15, 2018, suffering the first loss of his decorated career in a majority-decision defeat to Canelo Alvarez. The pair had previously fought to a draw in 2017 and it's believed Golovkin intends to stay busy until he secures a third bout with Alvarez, according to Pugmire.
The matchup will be the first of Golovkin's six-bout, nine-figure contract with DAZN. It also represents a substantial step up in competition for the 35-year-old Rolls (19-0). The Canadian's last two fights came at the Royal York Hotel and the Coca-Cola Coliseum, both located in Toronto, but his name will soon hit the marquee of the World's Most Famous Arena.
