Roger Federer is out of next month's Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The icon and No. 2 ranked player in the world's last competitive match was a loss to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final earlier this month.
He issued this statement via Tennis Canada:
I am disappointed that I won't be playing in Montreal because it's a tournament and a city that I really enjoy and has incredible fans. My family and I have always received first class treatment from the Tournament Director, Eugene Lapierre, and his team and I hope to be back in the future.
A two-time Rogers Cup champion, Federer was beaten by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in last year's final in Toronto.
Poland's Jerzy Janowicz has gained entry to the field.
