Rising Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas bested Rafael Nadal 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in the semifinal of the Madrid Open.
The second-seeded Spaniard didn't go down easily, saving three match points before Tsitsipas put him away. The world No. 9 player broke Nadal's serve six times and saved 11-of-16 break points against him.
Tsitsipas entered Saturday's showdown winless in three previous encounters against the "King of Clay."
The 20-year-old will play Novak Djokovic in his second career Masters 1000 final after the Serbian battled past Dominic Thiem in straight sets. Tsitsipas lost to Nadal in the championship match of last summer's Rogers Cup in Toronto.
Tsitsipas leads the ATP with 27 wins this season and is projected to rise to a career-high seventh in the world rankings.
