Roger Federer has lost at set at Wimbledon for the first time in two years.

Since losing the fifth set of the 2016 semifinals to Milos Raonic, Federer had reeled off 34 straight sets at the All England Club, a run that brought him the 2017 title and to the precipice of the 2018 semis. The streak equaled his own record for consecutive sets won at Wimbledon, which he set way back in 2005-06.

Up two sets to love on Kevin Anderson, Federer had a match point to break his own record, 12 years after the fact. But Anderson saved it, went on to hold, and promptly broke Federer to go up 6-5 and serve for the set. Federer earned triple break point, but Anderson pulled out some huge first serves to save all three, and finally clinched the set with an ace.
