We've sadly seen the last of Miroslav Klose's back-flip celebrations at international competitions.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Klose, 36, announced "I've decided to retire in 2015."

Having just renewed his contract at Lazio, the decision means he'll be closing out the final campaign of his career in Serie A.

Klose appeared in five matches as Germany claimed its fourth World Cup title earlier this month, scoring on two occasions to mark his place as the tournament's top all-time scorer with 16 goals. He also started in the final against Argentina, playing for 88 minutes before being replaced by Mario Gotze, who scored the winner in extra time.

Throughout his 16-year professional career, Klose has already amassed a phenomenal resume with which few footballers can compete:

  • FIFA World Cup winner (2014)
  • FIFA World Cup runner-up (2002)
  • UEFA European Championship runner-up (2008)
  • 2 x Bundesliga winner (2009-10, 2007-08)
  • 2 x DFB Pokal winner (2009-10, 2007-08)
  • 2 x Liga Pokal winner (2007, 2006)
  • Coppa Italia winner (2012-13)
  • DFL-Supercup (2010)
  • 470 club appearances
  • 143 club goals
  • 137 international appearances
  • 71 international goals
