Colin Kazim-Richards suspended by Feyenoord for threatening journalist

Feyenoord has handed a two-week suspension to forward Colin Kazim-Richards after he threatened a journalist from a Dutch daily newspaper.

Kazim-Richards was also dropped for his side's clash with PSV Eindhoven on Sunday due to his angry response to the journalist who penned a piece in Algemeen Dagblad claiming that he has a poor attitude. He is said to have confronted the writer at a prematch media conference.

The 29-year-old's career hasn't exactly followed a conventional path. After a rather uninspiring spell with Sheffield United, the London native was picked up by Turkish giant Fenerbahce in 2007 and was soon drafted into the national team through his mother's Turkish Cypriot heritage. Kazim-Richards has represented Turkey on 37 occasions, despite initially struggling with the language.

He has never been too far from controversy, however, and this latest misdemeanour follows an incident in 2013 where he was found guilty of making a homophobic gesture to Brighton & Hove Albion fans - the club he represented seven years earlier - while playing for Blackburn Rovers.

Kazim-Richards has scored just one goal in 11 appearances for Feyenoord since making his loan from Bursaspor permanent last summer.
