Celta Vigo reaches semi-finals of major European competition for 1st time

Spain's dominance over the Europa League isn't letting up.

On Thursday, Celta Vigo achieved a 1-1 draw at KRC Genk and advanced to the semi-finals of the Europa League by virtue of a 4-3 victory on aggregate. It will be the first time the Galician club plays in the final four of a major European competition in its 94-year history.

Celta could easily have won the second leg, but there will be no complaints from the club, particularly after Pione Sisto, who broke the deadlock in the first leg, opened the scoring for a second time. At the Luminus Arena, the Danish attacking midfielder fired a 20-yard scorcher past the outstretched fingertips of Mathew Ryan.

Celta is the last club from Spain standing in the Europa League. The last three editions of the tournament were won by a Spanish team.
