Malaysian striker Mohd Faiz Subri is the winner of the 2016 Puskas Award, the prize given for the best goal scored in a calendar year, for his incredible free-kick scored for Penang FA against Pulau Pinang on Feb. 16.
His goal beat out 17-year-old Venezuelan female international Daniuska Rodriguez's fleet-footed, dizzying effort, and Corinthians attacking midfielder Marlone's acrobatic strike to pip the prestigious prize.
Subri's swirling, physics-defying free-kick propelled the otherwise unknown striker to new heights on the world stage, as he shared the spotlight and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, and Ronaldo of Brazil.
