Zenit overcomes 3-goal deficit in 13 minutes to snatch win at Maccabi
Germany at the Wankdorf Stadium in 1954. Manchester United at the Camp Nou in 1999. Liverpool at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in 2005.
Now add Zenit St. Petersburg in Netanya, Israel to that esteemed list of great footballing comebacks.
The Russian powerhouse looked set to be upset on its travels to Maccabi Tel-Aviv on Thursday, toiling to a 3-0 deficit courtesy of Haris Medunjanin scoring on either side of a Vidar Orn Kjartansson effort.
Then, Zenit's previously out-of-favour striker Aleksandr Kokorin's 76th-minute tally marked an incredible fightback from Zenit, with goals Robert Mak and Giuliano then levelling the tie on 86 minutes.
The three points were incredibly secured by the visitor in the closing stages, when Luka Djordjevic dived to meet Giuliano's cross following sustained pressure from Mircea Lucescu's side.
The 4-3 win put Zenit atop its quartet due to a 1-1 draw between AZ Alkmaar and Dundalk in another eventual Group D tilt.
