Scott Sinclair boosts Celtic's title bid after Villa move

Brendan Rodgers continued his impressive summer of transfer activity at Celtic by landing Scott Sinclair from Aston Villa.

The winger reunites with the boss that signed him for Swansea City six years ago, and joins for a fee initially worth £3 million that could potentially rise to £4.5 million with add-ons, according to the Guardian. Sinclair signed a four-year contract in Parkhead.

"It feels amazing to have joined Celtic," said the 27-year-old. "It's a massive club and I'm looking forward to it. I'm here now and I'm happy to be here.

"I can't wait to get on the pitch. When I went back to Aston Villa for preseason, I heard Celtic were interested, and I just knew I had to come here."

Sinclair spent just one-and-a-half years with the Villains - five months of which was on a loan spell from previous employer Manchester City - but the 2015-16 campaign saw them relegated from the Premier League with a miserly 17 points.

In Glasgow, Sinclair is looking to revive a career that saw his best form during the two seasons in south Wales under Rodger's tutelage.

"The manager had a great influence when I was at Swansea and that's when I played my best football," Sinclair admitted, "and hopefully now I can get the best football out of me and get my form back out there and score goals and perform.

"I'm just hoping to come here, score some goals, create chances and hopefully excite the fans."

Rodgers added a precocious striking talent in Moussa Dembele earlier in the summer; and with Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts, Callum McGregor, and Stuart Armstrong all pushing for a place in the first XI, Celtic has an embarrassment of riches in attack.

After edging through two rounds of Champions League qualification so far, the Hoops turn attentions to domestic duty in the trip to Hearts on Sunday. Sinclair will travel with the squad for the tie.
