Schalke's Huntelaar considering move back to Ajax
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar isn't ruling out a return to the Netherlands after his contract with FC Schalke 04 expires.
The Dutch striker admitted he's considering a move back to Ajax, where he spent two seasons before transferring to Real Madrid in 2009, but his priorities lie with Schalke and qualifying for the Champions League next season.
"I have not made a final decision," he told Der Westen, as translated by ESPN FC. "But I am considering it. Right now, only FC Schalke 04 counts for me."
Huntelaar, whose contract with Schalke expires in the summer of 2017, joined the club from AC MIlan in 2010 and has gone on to become one of the top scorers in Germany's top flight. His Bundesliga-leading 29 goals during the 2011-12 campaign are just a portion of the 122 goals he's registered in 211 matches.
As Ajax edges towards winning its fifth title in the last six seasons, Schalke is hopeful of qualifying for a place in the Champions League. The Bundesliga outfit finds itself four points back of Hertha Berlin for the final place in the lucrative continental tournament.
