Antonio Cassano waxes poetic on sex, food addictions

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano has conceded to having both sex and food addictions during the prime years of his 16-year professional career.

In an interview with Spanish site AS, Cassano admitted that a predilection for food and sex was the reason he appeared a few pounds heavy for top-flight football.

"In Madrid, I had a friend who was a hotel waiter. His job was to bring me three or four pastries after I had sex," Cassano said. "He would bring the pastries up the stairs, I would escort the woman to him and we would make an exchange: he would take the girl and I would take the pastries."

The 33-year-old Bari-born forward continued, "Sex and then food, a perfect night."

When asked about his mercurial time at Real Madrid, Cassano offered his thoughts on his relationship with David Beckham.

"David was perfect, but he also behaved himself (laughs). I was the one who got up to mischief; he was married. All the girls were after David, but it wasn't possible because he was married and already had kids. I had a girlfriend when I arrived in Madrid, but within a month ..."

Cassano, however, was quick to point out how his habits altered upon meeting his wife in 2008.

"When you're 20 years old and you like girls, you have it in you to do it every day. And I had the chance to," he said. "I was Cassano, the Real Madrid player! If I'd had any other job, nobody would have looked at me, not even my mother (laughs)! I'm a nice guy, but I'm not a looker."

Cassano, who is in his third tenure with Sampdoria and the latter stages of his career, has made 14 appearances for the club this season with one goal.

Never far from controversy or derision, Cassano appears content with how his career fared.

"You can call me a rebel or a madman," he said, "but I can’t change how I started. I’m happy this way."
