Swansea City has agreed to an £8-million fee for Chievo Verona poacher Alberto Paloschi, and is currently negotiating terms with the player's representatives, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Marcus Christenson.

The Welsh club has searched for a striker in January to bolster its chances of avoiding relegation. A bid for Napoli's Manolo Gabbiadini was reportedly rejected earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Paloschi, however, isn't a poor alternative. He has established himself as a modest goal-scorer in Serie A. He began his career with AC Milan in 2008 as a teenager, and scored 17 seconds into his league debut for the Rossoneri.

Subsequent moves to Parma and Genoa failed to jump-start his career, but he has earned a solid reputation as Chievo's main target man since joining the Flying Donkeys in 2011.

His best season came in 2013-14, when he tallied a career-high 13 league goals in 34 appearances. Paloschi is on a similar pace in the current campaign, with eight strikes in 21 games thus far.
