Report: Inter Milan considers signing Ivanovic from Chelsea on free transfer

Inter Milan hopes Branislav Ivanovic will agree to terms in January ahead of an eventual free transfer in the summer as he enters his last few months under contract at Chelsea, Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard reports.

Ivanovic, 31, is set to become a free agent after a difficult start to the season with the Blues. He is currently seeking a multi-year extension, but the London club has a policy in place that only guarantees rolling 12-month contracts to players over 30 years old.

Inter, which reportedly monitored Ivanovic's situation for "some time," could take advantage of that uncertainty and offer a pre-contract next month. The Nerazzurri are prepared to give the Serbia international a minimum two-year deal and "are confident they can lure him to the San Siro," Johnson states.

Chelsea doesn't want to lose Ivanovic, but his performances at both centre-back and right-back positions have fallen off dramatically.
