Gianluigi Buffon: 'Legends are those who are super-human and that's not for me'

Gianluigi Buffon isn't about that super-human life.

In conversation with Spanish outlet AS on Thursday, the Juventus icon, who recently extended his contract until 2017 and made his 500th appearance for the club in October, was asked about a number of subjects, including whether he's comfortable being defined as a legend.

His answer? Well, let's just say the Italian 'keeper is still oozing class.

"No, no, legends are those who are super-human and that's not for me," Buffon replied. "I'm a sportsman with a soul, a good heart, or bad, whatever, that's what people need to judge. I consider myself a footballer who's been a part of Italian, European and world footballing history. Legends are created after death. That I hope is some way off."

Another noteworthy response came when Buffon was asked about Iker Casillas's claim that people get tired of seeing the same faces over and over, and look to switch clubs as a result.

"People like change," Buffon said. "They want to have new heroes. But, as I said earlier, there are players born to end up in the history book. No one can stop destiny, but these players are few and far between. Not every player can write pages in the history book of both Real Madrid and in the Spanish national team."

Speaking of Madrid, Buffon insists it was one of the clubs he dreamt of representing when he was younger.

"It's true that when you're young, you dream of playing for the European greats. As a result, I dreamt of playing for Juve, Milan, Inter, Madrid, Barcelona and for Liverpool ..."
