The managerial carousel at Palermo just keeps turning as the Italian outfit announced Thursday the appointment of Luis Diego Lopez as its new first-team head coach, signing the former Bologna and Cagliari boss to a contract through the summer of 2018.

The former Uruguay international is the club's 11th managerial appointment since November 2015, making Eugenio Corini the most recent victim of Palermo's astonishing turnover rate. He resigned Tuesday.

Giuseppe Iachini was the last long-term boss for Palermo, a club that is now on its fourth manager this season.

Since Iachini's departure in 2015, the club has twice hired Davide Ballardini and afforded a month or two to Fabio Viviani, Giovanni Tedesco, Giovanni Bosi, Walter Novellino, and Roberto De Zerbi.

Palermo even brought Iachini back in February 2016 for a one-month spell - the result of the failed tenure of Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who was appointed to the role in January 2016 but did not receive his coaching badges from UEFA, thus failing to manage even a single match.

In any case, Lopez's current contract with the Sicilian outfit, currently in 19th place, lasts until June 30, 2018. Palermo fans will hope he's successful enough to even reach that day.
