Agent: Giovinco not interested in Serie A return

Sebastian Giovinco isn't ready to give up on Toronto FC and return to Italy after a successful stint in Major League Soccer.

According to his agent, the Italian has settled into life in North America in the two years since his departure from Juventus.

So much so that Giovinco will reject offers to return to Serie A as he looks to build on the success he had in Toronto last season after playing an influential role in guiding the team to its first MLS Cup final appearance.

"Giovinco's not coming back to Italy," agent Andrea D'Amico told Sportitalia television, as translated by ESPN FC's Ben Gladwell. "He's found a setting here he is enjoying huge satisfaction both on and off the field, including getting to within touching distance of the title.

"Football in the USA is growing rapidly and this growth of the whole movement there can be seen in the number of spectators flocking to the stadiums."

Giovinco burst onto the scene during his first season with the Canadian club when he banged in 22 goals before winning the league's Most Valuable Player award. He also helped TFC reach the MLS playoffs for the first time in team history.

However, despite his success, Giovinco's move to North America has had an adverse impact on his international career after missing out on being named to the Italian national team ahead of Euro 2016.

Although Italy has changed managers since then, the country's new coach, Giampiero Ventura, will continue to omit the 29-year-old after admitting he won't consider Giovinco because he "plays in a league that doesn't matter much".

Nonetheless, assurance over his decision to remain in North America will be welcome news to a Toronto fan base desperate to retain the gifted midfielder and follow-up last season with another run to the MLS Cup final.
