Torino president: Hart's wages too high for us

Torino president Urbano Cairo isn't optimistic about his club's chances of signing Joe Hart on a permanent basis.

Citing the on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper's high wages, Cairo said in an interview with newspaper La Stampa he would revisit the situation at the end of the season.

Hart's currently pulling in a reported €4.2 million per season, the majority of which is being subsidised by City. As a result of the loan arrangement, Torino only has to cover about €1 million of his yearly wage, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

So signing the England international outright is unlikely.

"He's doing well in Turin, and we're enjoying him, but we know he's not our player. His salary is in no way accessible for us," Cairo said.

Keeping four clean sheets in 16 appearances for Il Toro, Hart has gradually adapted to Serie A. His first match wasn't the best of starts - Hart's failure to clear a corner kick led to a 2-1 loss to Atalanta - but he has since recovered from the blunder.

Despite Cairo's doubts over Hart's future with the Piedmont side, he is still aiming for European qualification. Torino is four points off a Europa League spot in eighth place, thanks in large part to Andrea Belotti's 13 goals this campaign.

"We declared once (manager Sinisa) Mihajlovic arrived to target Europe," Cairo added.

Torino resumes the Serie A season Jan. 8 with a trip to Sassuolo.
