Lukaku: Pogba's move to United not influenced by money

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has insisted Paul Pogba's record-shattering £89.3-million transfer to Manchester United had "nothing to do with money."

Lukaku and Pogba are close friends, and the two even vacationed to Miami together last summer. The Belgian striker was also present when Pogba put pen to paper on the ludicrous move across the English Channel.

"A lot of things are said about him," Lukaku told Sport/Foot Magazine, as translated by ESPN FC's Arindam Rej. "But I was there at the hotel when he signed for United. There were maybe 10 people surrounding him with briefcases and contracts inside.

"When everything was signed - and I've know Paul for many years - I've never seen him with that look on his face," Lukaku added.

"I'd never seen him so happy. This return to United, it had nothing to do with money."

Lukaku admitted he and Pogba rarely talk about work, but the French midfielder previously revealed how it was his dream to sign back at United, after enjoying his four-year stint at Juventus.

"It was a relief, a real happiness for him," Lukaku explained. "We only spoke once about football during our holidays this summer, when we were at a pool in L.A., and he was telling me about his dream to return to United.

"That's when I understood what it meant."

Pogba is yet to showcase the scintillating form he displayed during his four years in Serie A, but it is still very early days. He's only appeared 19 times for his new club, scoring four goals in the process.
