Report: Valencia to appoint Prandelli as manager

Reuters

Flailing La Liga outfit Valencia has selected Cesare Prandelli as its new manager, according to ESPN FC's Gabriele Marcotti.

The Italian tactician will sign a two-year deal with the club, becoming its fifth gaffer since November 2015.

Voro Gonzalez had taken the reins on an interim basis following the sacking of Pako Ayestaran, who lost all four matches to start the season.

Voro offered a bit of a reprieve in the two matches he oversaw, scoring victories against newly promoted sides Deportivo Alaves and Leganes.

But there was bound to be another change on the bench. The Mirror's Ed Malyon understands Louis van Gaal and Marcelo Bielsa were also considered for the role, but the club's hierarchy apparently decided on Prandelli.

The 59-year-old hasn't held a job in nearly two years, having endured a difficult spell at Galatasaray. Lasting just 16 games in Turkey, Prandelli was criticised for his team selections.

He previously resigned from the Italy post after a disastrous group stage exit at the 2014 World Cup.
