Napoli pres De Laurentiis denies Cavani link

No stranger to assuming the role of Napoli mouthpiece, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has refuted reports of a return for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

With Gonzalo Higuain at Juventus, Napoli has 36 league goals to account for, and despite summer signing Arkadiusz Milik's brace on his full debut, speculation continues to peg Cavani with a return to the Stadio San Paolo.

However, De Laurentiis is having none of it.

"I’m a big fan of Edinson Cavani," De Laurentiis offered in a statement from Napoli's website.

"We had great fun with him during his time in Naples. He scored so many beautiful goals. But it’s difficult to bring a player to Napoli who we’ve had in the past."

Cavani, who spent three years with I Ciucciarelli, bagging 78 goals in 104 appearances before a €64-million move to the French capital, appears happy at PSG with an opportunity to be the marquee No. 9 on the heels of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departure.

Even if Cavani fancied a Serie A return, De Laurentiis offers a vivid analogy to refute reports.

"It’s not so much that it would seem like reheated soup, but that Napoli evolves tournament by tournament, assuming several different ways of playing."

Di Laurentiis continued, praising the players he already has, "If we’re talking about strikers, players like [Arkadiusz] Milik and [Manolo] Gabbiadini are great prospects who could find their consecration in Naples."
