Fresh off the appointment of Frank de Boer as Roberto Mancini's managerial replacement, Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has promised to strengthen the club before the transfer window slams shut.

"We want to strengthen the team," Thohir told Inter Channel, courtesy of ESPN FC. "We have signed [Antonio] Candreva already and we might be signing one or two more players, but it's important that these players are good for Inter."

On the heels of last season's fourth-place finish, Inter is hoping a host of summer signings will help I Nerazzurri take the next step and secure Champions League football for the first time since 2011-12.

In addition to the €22-million move for Candreva from Lazio, De Boer's squad has been boosted with bargain basement moves for Ever Banega, Caner Erkin, Gianluca Caprari, and Cristian Ansaldi.

De Boer is tasked with determining the virtues of his roster, and it appears that Thohir has patient plans for the famed former Dutch international.

"Of course Frank has the time to get to know the team. He has a new way of playing football, maybe different. Let's see."

After reportedly bumping heads with Mancini during the Italian's 20-month spell with the 18-time top-flight winners, Thohir is humble in his praise of the former Manchester City gaffer.

"I would like to say thank you to Roberto Mancini," the Indonesian businessman added.

"Last year we improved a lot, but at the same time I mentioned to Frank that this is Inter and it is important that he works and shows the fans we are serious people and makes sure we come back into the Champions League."

Inter kicks off the 2016-17 Serie A campaign with a two-hour drive east across the A35 to Chievo to lock horns with the pesky Flying Donkeys on Sunday Aug. 21.
