Casillas: No plans to retire until Buffon does

Iker Casillas won't hang up his boots until his greatest adversary does the same.

The Spanish net-minder revealed it's trivial to discuss his possible retirement as long as Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon, 38, continues to strap on his gloves.

With Buffon agreeing to a new Juventus contract that runs until he's 40, that guarantees Casillas will prolong his career at least another two years.

"When (Buffon) retires, I will too," Casillas told Gazzetta dello Sport. "He just signed a new deal and that makes me happy because that means I will, too.

"When we call it quits we'll set up a nice match between my friends and his friends."

Casillas, 35, currently plies his trade at FC Porto after joining the Portuguese side from Real Madrid in 2015.

Respect between the two is well documented after several meetings on both the domestic and international levels, with their most publicized encounter coming in 2012 when Spain beat Italy in the European Championship final in Ukraine.

Both men will look to provide their respective countries with something to cheer about when they compete at Euro 2016 in France. Spain opens its Euro campaign Monday against the Czech Republic, while Italy clashes with Belgium later in the day.
