Report: Arsenal tells Roma permanent Szczesny move costs £15M
If Roma wants to make on-loan Wojciech Szczesny its permanent first-choice shot-stopper, it had better pony-up for the £15-million price tag that Arsenal have reportedly slapped on the Polish international.
Having already admitted that a long-term stay at the club interests him, Sczesny may get his wish, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Szczesny, 26, has spent the season on loan with I Giallorossi after Arsenal signed Petr Cech in the summer, making 42 appearances with nine clean sheets for Luciano Spalletti's third-place side, prompting the club's interest in extending his stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
With Cech under contract for until the summer of 2019, it's unlikely that Szczesny is on Arsenal's plans for next season. With a 39-year-old Morgan De Sanctis playing second fiddle to the Warsaw-born 'keeper this season, Arsenal appears to understand Roma's desperation, placing a £15-million valuation on Szczesny.
The reported transfer fee would be the fifth-most paid for a shot-stopper. Gianluigi Buffon's £33-million move from Parma to Juventus is tops, with transfers for Manuel Neuer, David de Gea, and Angelo Perruzzi more than the price placed on Szczesny by Arsenal.
Here's a look at the 10 highest fees paid for a 'keeper:
Players | From | To | Fee (£) |
---|---|---|---|
Gianluigi Buffon | Parma | Juventus | £33m |
Manuel Neuer | Schalke | Bayern Munich | £19m |
David De Gea | Atletico Madrid | Manchester United | £18m |
Angelo Perruzzi | Inter Milan | Lazio | £15.7m |
Jan Oblak | Benfica | Atletico Madrid | £12.6m |
Petr Cech | Chelsea | Arsenal | £10m |
Fraser Forster | Celtic | Southampton | £10m |
Claudio Bravo | Real Sociedad | Barcelona | £9.7m |
Marc-Andre ter Stegen | Monchengladbach | Barcelona | £9.7m |
Fernando Muslera | Lazio | Galatasaray | £9.93 |
