Buffon hails Juventus' 5th consecutive title: 'Best Scudetto ever'

Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon says his team's 2015-16 Italian title is the best domestic crown of his career as the Bianconeri celebrate a fifth-consecutive Scudetto win.

Buffon, 38, was instrumental in securing yet another title for the Old Lady, his seventh Scudetto title with the club he joined in 2001. But it didn't come easy; Juventus struggled in the early goings of the season, stuck in the lower half of the table, before a string of 24 wins in 25 games propelled the club back to the top.

"The statistics confirm it has been a crazy season," Buffon told reporters, as quoted by ESPN FC. "This is the best Scudetto ever because it has come from an incredible demonstration of strength. It's a victory for a granite, cohesive group. It was a win for the club."

For Buffon, this title, like every other, is made doubly special due to his unwavering loyalty to the black-and-white stripes of the Turin club. The Italian 'keeper reflected back to the days when the team was mired in controversy, relegated down to Serie B as a result of the Calciopoli scandal.

"Considering those times of Calciopoli, when I stayed here even in Serie B, this is a special reward for me which gratifies me, and I think it's deserved," Buffon said. "What life takes from you it later gives you back."

"I fought for a worthy cause without any ulterior motives and in the end, life always gives you something back. When we were two points behind Napoli, I told the team not to give up now because there was a risk that, after such a recovery, we could have sat back. But it all went well. It's a momentous achievement."
