Genoa parts ways with De Canio
Genoa, Italy (Sports Network) - Genoa has fired manager Luigi De Canio one day after the club suffered a 4-2 defeat in Serie A against Roma.
Genoa president Enrico Preziosi made the decision to fire De Canio and confirmed that he will be replaced by former Juventus manager Luigi Delneri.
Preziosi told ANSA: "At this time it was right to change, I immediately took Delneri because I was afraid he was going to be somewhere else. Reinforcements arrive in January."
Genoa led Roma 2-0 only 15 minutes into Sunday's game, but yielded four unanswered goals to fall to 10th in Serie A.
De Canio replaced Alberto Malesani in April and helped Genoa avoid relegation last season, but he was unable to survive a poor start this term.
