EDISON, N.J. - The start of the FedEx Cup playoffs brought out the worst score from Jordan Spieth in three months.

Spieth shot a 40 on his back nine and opened The Barclays with a 74. It was his highest score since he had a 75 in The Players Championship, where he missed the cut.

Bubba Watson had seven birdies that led to a 5-under 65 and a four-way share of the lead with Spencer Levin, Tony Finau, and Camilo Villegas. Villegas only got into the top 125 to qualify for the playoffs last week. That was pressure. Now he has says he has nothing to lose as he tries to get into the top 100 who advance to next week.

Spieth has nothing to lose except perhaps his No. 1 ranking. He sits in a tie for 95th after the opening round.
