Tiger Woods at Wyndham: 'If I don't win this event, I'll have my offseason early'

Despite committing to play the Wyndham Championship on Friday, many were skeptical that Tiger Woods would actually play in Greensboro after missing a third consecutive major cut at the PGA Championship. The 39-year-old is sticking to his word.

"If I don't win this event, then I'll have my offseason early," Woods said in a press conference following Wednesday's pro-am, which he played alongside Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul. He added that after a "big break," he'll play in some tournaments overseas later in the year.

Currently 286th in the World Golf Ranking, he needs either a win or a sole second-place finish for a chance to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. Woods currently sits 187th in the standings, with the top 125 advancing to the PGA Tour's final four events.

The weekend will mark his first ever appearance at the Wyndham Championship, but he was enthusiastic when discussing the course conditions.

"This is fun, I don't get a chance to play a golf course where I get to use my 2-iron anymore," Woods said, before telling reporters that his main concern is his putting. "I hadn't putted on Bermuda greens that are this fast in a very long time."

The 14-time major champion will be playing his early round alongside young guns Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama.
