Jarrod Lyle to step away for remainder of PGA Tour season

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Following a stretch of seven consecutive missed cuts, Jarrod Lyle has decided he will take the rest of the PGA Tour season off and prepare himself to come back next year.

"I need to stress that this decision has nothing to do with my illness - I am still healthy and cancer-free," said Lyle, who has beat leukemia twice in his life, most recently in 2012.

The 33-year-old Australian only made cuts at his first two events this season in October. He did make it to Saturday during the ongoing Crowne Plaza Invitational, but was subject to a secondary cut that kept him out of the final round.

Lyle stated he needs the break to put his full attention on golf as he looks forward to being competitive once again in the future.

"Just like I did whatever it took to fight for my life in the last few years, I am now going to do whatever it takes to fight for my job," he said.
