The Ryder Cup has been awarded to the victorious European team for their 16 1/2 to 11 1/2 win over the Americans. Captain Paul McGinley accepted the cup for his team in front of tens of thousands of fans who stayed to watch their team hoist it.

"We, the European team, feel humbled and honoured to be able to raise it shortly. We will lift this trophy not as 12 players... but for all people of Europe of all ethnicities, all languages, and all cultures," McGinley said during the trophy presentation.

As the crowd sang the Ole chant, McGinley was eager to finish his speech saying, "You can sing in a minute... You know that song started in Ireland?"

While Team USA sat with stern faces, they were thanked for growing the game in America by McGinley.
