Adam Scott and caddie Steve Williams part ways

The partnership between Adam Scott and Steve Williams is over, according to GolfChannel.com.

Having worked together since summer 2011, the twosome announced the mutual split Wednesday. The decision came after Williams - who mulled retirement following the 2013 Masters - told Scott at the start of the season that he would have liked to scale back his tournament schedule to spend more time with his family in New Zealand.

“After discussing this in detail with Adam it became evident that my plan was not going to fit with Adam’s requirements so we decided to end our partnership,” Williams said.

Since the two began working together, Scott has quickly become one of the world's most revered golfers, winning his first career major at the 2013 Masters while climbing to No. 1 this past May. So far this year, Scott has finished outside the top 25 only once.

“Steve has been an integral part of my team in a period where I have fulfilled some of my lifetime golfing goals,” Scott said. “His dedication and professionalism have been without question and his friendship is highly valued. Our priorities and stages of life are different now and so we decided that this is the best time to end our partnership.”

Williams, who also caddied for Raymond Floyd and Greg Norman, worked with Tiger Woods from 2000 to 2011. Together they won 13 majors, but the duo's partnership went south in 2011 when Williams agreed to caddie for Scott while Woods recovered from injury.

Williams isn't ruling out any future plans, though.

“If the right opportunity arose I would consider caddying on a part-time basis in the future,” he said.
