Keegan Bradley withdraws from BMW Championship due to embedded ball
Captain's pick for the US Ryder Cup team Keegan Bradley withdrew from the BMW Championship at Cherry Hills in Denver Saturday afternoon. As Kelly Tilghman explains, his best bet was to withdraw from the competition.
On the par-4 18th hole Thursday, Bradley took a drop on what was an embedded ball and had the drop cleared by a course marshal. After speaking with a fan who thought the ball bounced, Bradley spoke to Slugger White (VP of Rules and Competitions) who reassured him he wasn't in violation.
Bradley decided to withdraw, likely ending his FedEx Cup playoff hopes as he sits 34th and the top 30 move on to the final event in Atlanta.
"It’s eating me alive," Bradley told Mike McAllister of pgatour.com. "I didn’t call my fellow competitors for help in the first place and that bothers me. I know the official approved the drop, but I just can’t be absolutely sure it was the right spot."
Earlier in the day Phil Mickelson withdrew citing he wanted to rest for the Ryder Cup rather than play another FedEx Cup playoff tournament.
