PGA picks: Horschel the value play in Houston

The final tuneup for The Masters goes this weekend in Texas, as the PGA Tour tees it up at the Shell Houston Open.

While many players in the field at Augusta are skipping the event to prepare for the season's first major, top names like Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson, and Jon Rahm are among those playing this week.

Here's the best picks from the betting board in Texas.

Favorite to watch (odds less than 25/1)

Justin Rose

Justin Rose hasn't played very often this year, but has been very successful when he's teed it up. The Englishman has played five PGA Tour events and finished in the top 40 in all of them, with two fourth-place showings. His last event was the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he finished 13th, and with two weeks' rest, Rose should be set for a strong showing in Houston.

Odds to win: 18/1
Top-5 odds: 7/2

2nd tier (odds greater than 25/1)

Billy Horschel

Billy Horschel hasn't played the Houston Open since 2013, but finished second in that event, so he's no stranger to success around the challenging layout. The 30-year-old has experienced a bit of a roller-coaster season in 2017, with three missed cuts and two top-fives in 10 events. He's coming off a strong 13th-place showing at Bay Hill, and past success in Houston has him primed for a big week. At 40/1, he's certainly worth a serious wager.

Odds to win: 40/1
Top-5 odds: 9/1

Long shot (odds greater than 50/1)

Bryson DeChambeau

The ultra-talented Bryson DeChambeau finally had a breakthrough last week in Puerto Rico, finishing in second place with an impressive 18-under-par total. The 23-year-old experienced a rough stretch earlier this season, missing the cut or withdrawing in five straight events, but has looked good the past two tournaments. DeChambeau has abandoned the "side-saddle" putting style he was working with earlier this season, and is primed for a push forward. At 66/1, it's a smart idea to lay a wager on his talent shining through this week.

Odds to win: 66/1
Top-5 odds: 12/1

Super long shot (odds greater than 70/1)

Ollie Schniederjans

The first full year on the PGA Tour has been productive for Ollie Schniederjans, as the 23-year-old has made 8-of-12 cuts and has three top-10 finishes to his name. It's his first time teeing it up at the Houston Open, but the talented Texan should feel right at home. With his consistency this season, it's only a matter of time before he gets it rolling for a run at the leaderboard.

Odds to win: 80/1
Top-5 odds: 16/1

Hit this bet, buy a car (odds greater than 100/1)

Kyle Stanley

Kyle Stanley has been a model of consistency this season, with seven top-40 finishes in nine events, including five top-25 showings. A poor finish in the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational saw him fall to a 17th-place finish, but Stanley showed in the first three rounds that his game is in good shape heading to Houston. A 19th-place showing in last year's event should bring some confidence to the 29-year-old as he looks to maintain his consistent play.

Odds to win: 100/1
Top-5 odds: 20/1
