Chez Reavie toys with 59, but finishes with a 61

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

There have been a handful of players who have flirted with a round of 59 this week at the Sony Open, but in the end only Justin Thomas hit the number.

Sunday, it was Chez Reavie's turn when he came out of the gate with four birdies in his first seven holes. Reavie then got serious with 59 on the par-3 17th hole, his eighth of the day.

The 2008 Canadian Open champion, then added another circle on the card at the next hole, to make the turn in a remarkable 28.

Reavie would tack on two more birdies at No. 2 and No. 3.

The Kansas native failed to make a 26-foot par putt at the sixth, leading to his only bogey on the round. He would add one more birdie on his last hole to become the third player to shoot 61 this week.
