To play into the weekend, Rory McIlroy needs to have more success on the greens than he had en route to an enormously disappointing 74 on Thursday in Round 1 of the PGA Championship.

So he putted into the night.

McIlroy returned to the practice area at Baltusrol Golf Club to work on his putting stroke, still tapping it around almost 11 hours after his frustrating opening round began.

McIlroy's 35 putts saw him finish fourth-to-last in strokes gained, sullying a scorching ball-striking round.
