Tiger Woods plays 1st holes of 2016, 'progressing' towards return

Tiger Woods' much anticipated return to the PGA Tour is coming along slowly but surely - swing by swing, and as of Monday, hole by hole.

On the same day he registered for the US Open, Tiger officially opened his newly designed course - Bluejack National Golf Club. And for the first time since the Wyndham Championship last August, Woods played a hole, five in fact, according to Bob Harig of ESPN.

Woods was content with his progress afterward.

"I'm definitely a little tired but I feel pretty good," Woods said. "I haven't been out here playing like this. I hadn't played any holes until today. I know people have said I've played holes back at Medalist, but I haven't. This is actually the first time I've played holes since Wyndham. It's been awhile.

"I'm just progressing. You saw how I was going at it today, nice and smooth. That's harder than I have been going at it the last month. Just gradually progressing. We're just trying to progress and I'm doing that."

Woods' swing certainly isn't as ferocious as it once was, not generating nearly the same amount of torque, but he remains happy with how far he has come.

"I would not have said I would be here like this five months ago," he said. "I wouldn't have thought I'd be able to do what I did here now. Or play with my kids again, things of that nature."

Despite registering for the calendar's second major, there is still no concrete timetable on Woods' return to competitive golf, but things appear to be rounding well into shape.
